Mrs. Thelma Washington Brown Davis transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at University of Michigan Health, Sparrow in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 92. Mrs. Davis, daughter of Rev. Samuel B. Washington and Velma Walton, was born on September 28, 1933, in Chelford, Arkansas.
A 1952 graduate of J.W. Sexton High School, Thelma worked in various positions before finding her calling at the Tri-County Office on Aging, where she served as a Referral Specialist. She remained dedicated to her work and retired at the age of 80.
Mrs. Davis was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church from its inception in 1962 until its closing in 2024. During her six decades of service, she served faithfully on the Trustee Board for many years.
Known for her gentle and soft-spoken nature, Mrs. Davis communicated with clarity and wisdom. She possessed a sweet spirit and cultivated a loving and peaceful atmosphere in her home. A woman of great inner strength, she raised her seven children in the admonition of the Lord, instilling discipline, faith, and values that will continue through generations. Her loving kindness and steadfast devotion to family will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Davis; her sons, George Brown, Jr., William Brown II, Gerald Brown, and Darrell Brown; her brother, Booker T. Washington; and her sister, Deborah Anderson.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Rev. LaSandra Jones; sons, Michael Brown and Dale Brown; 11 grandchildren, Amar Brown, Shabree Nelson, Sekeitha Ball, Gerald Brown, Jr., Isaac Davis, Tonea Brown, Kenneth Brown, Brandon Gonzalez, Dannielle Gonzalez, Michael Brown, and Thelma Brown; nieces, Melanie Vaughn and Kristen Anderson; nephews, Kevin Anderson and Kelly Anderson; along with many greatgrandchildren, cousins, and friends.
She prayed for strength but God taught her to surrender.
