Shatia "Tee Tee" Walker Henderson (Lansing)

Shatia Micole Walker-Henderson aka “TeeTee” was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan, on December 21, 1969, to Damita Walker and Gregory R. Vick. She accepted Christ at a young age and began a lifelong journey of faith. A gifted musician, she sang in the choir and played piano at church and played the flute in the Everett High School marching band. She proudly graduated from Everett High School in 1987.

In 1988, Shatia moved to California, where she married Kevin Swanson. From this union, she was blessed with two daughters: Laurese McGregor and Ebonee Swanson. Though that chapter of life closed, Shatia remained closely connected with the Swanson and Taylor families. Later, she married Troy Henderson, Sr., with whom they welcomed their son, Troy Henderson, Jr. Shatia also lovingly embraced her two bonus daughters, Kala and Keiarah, whom she adored as her own.

Shatia was the embodiment of hard work and dedication. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, she held many different jobs, often two or three at a time. She had a special passion for working with children and served the Lansing School District faithfully for many years. Her love of cooking led her to work in the kitchens of the Lansing School District, Sparrow Hospital, and Gregory's Restaurant.

Her vibrant personality shone through her many passions - doing hair, playing cards, and listening to all kinds of music. Above all, she loved singing for the Lord. A lifelong member of Jesus of Nazareth Church of God in Christ, Shatia served in countless roles: musician, singer, usher, nurse, choir director, van driver, and cook. She was a missionary in her own right, always promoting her love for Jesus Christ and ministering to others through word and deed.

Cherished Memories

Shatia leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and service. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Troy Henderson, Sr.; her beloved children, Laurese (Karl) McGregor, Ebonee Swanson, and Troy Henderson, Jr.; cherished grandchildren, Shaniya, Cahlil, Kainan, Solomon, Liam, Kalasee, Khylan, Kasein, and Kobe; loving mother, Damita Walker; sister, Latoya Thomas; sister in law, Bridgette Henderson of Los Angeles, CA; brother in law, Michael Henderson of Spencer, OK; grandmother, Mrs. Cora Walker of Lansing, MI; many aunts and uncles, Delisa (Rodney) Holmes, Brenda Walker-Johnson, Tina Walker, Sandra Woodard, Rudolph Griffin, all of Lansing, MI, and Breedy (James) Wilson of Rockford, IL; great aunt, Marie Williams of Cleveland, OH; great uncles, James Walker of Las Vegas, NV, and Robert (Bernice) Walker and Samuel Walker, Jr., all of Pinola, MS. She shared a special bond with her aunt and uncle, Bishop Aaron and Dr. Virgie Milton of Lansing, MI. Shatia also leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends including nieces, nephews, cousins, sister/cousins, sister/friends, her devoted Godmother Cathy Morgan, beloved God sister, Pheniecia Holston, and Godbrother, James Tyler, of Golfport, MS.
