Sharon Hopkins

August 30, 1965 — March 16, 2022

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; Ecclesiastes 3:1- 2

Our mother, Sharon Hopkins passed away on Wednesday March 16, 2022, after a brief illness. She was 56. Sharon was born in Memphis Tennessee, on Saturday August 30, 1965. The daughter of Charles Worles and Jennie Hopkins.

Sharon graduated from Oakhaven High School at age 16 in Memphis Tennessee, and after graduation she moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1981 with her loving family. Sharon was a curious individual and she strived to become the absolute best she could be, while preparing herself to serve her country. In 1986 Sharon enlisted in the Military Armed Forces as a soldier in the United States Army. She was awarded with a Marksmanship and Sharpshooter badge and received an honorable discharge.

Sharon knew Jesus was the best thing that had ever happened to her. She enjoyed visiting various churches throughout her lifetime, and she would frequently visit, Christ Kingdom Ministries, Good Samaritan, and Peace of Grace Ministries.

Sharon loved her family more than anything in the world. Her heart was extremely big, and she was always ready to help anyone in need without them asking her. Sharon took pride in adoring her five grandsons. She enjoyed spending time with all the kids including her nieces and nephews, while vacationing, fishing, sledding, and taking trips to soaring eagle water park.

She enjoyed fixing things and if she couldn’t fix it, she would break it trying. She retired from Healthsource Saginaw in January 2016 as a Food Service Worker, and she also worked part time in the Ice Cream Shop servicing her special “fat free ice cream”. Sharon became the President of the Union Council 25 AFSCME 101 at HealthSource Saginaw, and she appreciated the opportunity to help people to navigate countless situations.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Kandice Hopkins, Freeland, Michigan, Sylander (Twylena) Hopkins and Shannen Hopkins both of Saginaw, Michigan; grandsons, Sylander Jr., Desoto, Texas, Tylan, Isiah Hopkins, Saginaw, Michigan, DeVonte’ Mims Jr. and Major Hopkins, Freeland, Michigan; siblings, brother, Bernard (Vivian) Hopkins, Memphis, Tennessee; sisters, Sherri Blacksher, Saginaw, Michigan, Tonja Hopkins, Grand Rapids, Michigan; eight nieces; four nephews; aunts, Diane Logan and Anita Pegues, Memphis, Tennessee; uncle, Pete, Aaron (Dorothy) Hopkins; and Kenny Pegues,  Memphis, Tennessee; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie G. Hopkins and Charles Worles; grandparents, Samuel and Georgia Hopkins; her aunt, Sandra Falls; uncles, Raymond, Redell and Cardell Hopkins; great-grandparents, Houston and Golda Williamson, Will and Loula Hopkins; brother-in-law, Arthur Blacksher.

The family would like to express special thanks to Covenant Healthcare medical teams, and her children, for all their love, care, and support.
