Robert Manuel passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 56, at Henry Ford Hospital. Robert was born on January 2, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, to Saddie Shorter and Robert Riley. Robert was a truly good-hearted man who lived with kindness, humility, and compassion. He had a gentle way of making people feel valued and appreciated. His caring spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Robert had a deep love for sports and was an avid fan of the University of Michigan football team, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Bulls. He found joy in watching games, sharing laughs, and creating special memories with family and friends.
Robert will be remembered for his warm heart, gentle spirit, and the genuine love he showed to others. His legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Robert is lovingly remembered by his devoted mother, Saddie Shorter, his children, Malik (Rebecca) Williams of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Robert T. Manuel and Brianna Manuel of Arizona, and his bonus daughter, whom he raised at a young age, Angel Frazier of Saginaw, Michigan. He is also survived by his brother, Terrell Green of Chicago, Illinois; his sisters, Tenesha (Reggie) Davis of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Veronica and Shareana Shorter of Saginaw, Michigan, Timeka Shorter of Tampa, Florida, Jasmine Selvey, Richmond, Virginia and Tenesha Selvey of Saginaw, Michigan; his special aunts, Bessie Manuel, Lillian Washington, and Nellie Riley of Chicago, Illinois, and Cornelia Adway of Saginaw, Michigan, his uncles, Alfred and Victor Riley of Chicago, Illinois and Dewayne Riley of Mississippi; 15 cherished grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Riley; stepfather, Charlie Shorter; and cousins, Tenesha Artis, Franscoir Shepherd, and Anthony Selvey.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff of Covenant Healthcare and Henry Ford Hospital for their dedication, support, and kindness.
