Reginald Clemente Carter, affectionately known as Reggie was born on August 25, 1957, in Meridian, Mississippi. He passed away on April 6, 2026, in Lansing, Michigan.

Reggie spent his formative years in Saginaw, Michigan, where he attended Saginaw High School. A gifted athlete, he excelled in both track and football. As a member of the school’s 1975 800-meter relay team, he helped set a record time of 1:27.1, a remarkable achievement that remains unbroken. His discipline, competitiveness, and determination were evident early on and stayed with him throughout his life.

Following high school, Reggie attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, on a track scholarship. After his freshman year, he transferred to Michigan State University. While at MSU, Reggie continued the legacy of achievement set by his father and was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1977. He was a member of the distinguished “FBI” line at his beloved Delta Pi Chapter of ΚΑΨ. His time at MSU was marked by lifelong friendships and the enduring bond of brotherhood.

Reggie went on to build a successful career at General Motors, where he worked for nearly 24 years before retiring. He approached his work with integrity and consistency, earning the respect of those around him.

Outside of his career, Reggie found joy in the details of everyday life. He took great pride in maintaining an immaculate lawn, often adorned with vibrant flowers and whimsical lawn ornaments. It reflected his meticulous nature, his eye for beauty, and the care he brought to everything he did.

Known for his intelligence, quick wit, and encyclopedic knowledge, Reggie was a standout in trivia competitions throughout Lansing. As a member of the Crimson and Cream trivia team, he contributed to many victories, often surprising others with the depth of his knowledge.

His curiosity extended into his faith, and he spent time reading about the life of Jesus Christ after accepting Him as his Lord and Savior.

Above all, family was central to Reggie’s life. He is survived by his children, Limika Sherrie Carter and Kervante “Buddy” Carter, whom he dearly loved.

He is also survived by his loving partner, Pamela Dunavant, with whom he shared a special connection. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Greyson Carter Dunavant.

His siblings, Veronica Carter Hamilton (Sullivan), Stanwyn Jay Carter (Dorothea), and Lisa Carter Cobb (John), were near and dear to his heart.

Reggie was a proud and loving uncle to AnTony Hamilton, Jacqueline Lebron, Corree Hamilton, Danielle Carter, Daniel Carter, Christina Carter, Nicole Carter, and Dorian Carter, and he leaves behind a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Flossie Carter, and his brother, George “Tony” Carter Jr. Their memories remained close to him throughout his life.

Reggie will be remembered for his steady presence, his sharp mind, his love for his family, and his lifelong bond with the brothers of ΚΑΨ, especially the Nupes of Delta Pi.

He will also be remembered for the joy and smiles he brought to those around him.
