Paster Lee Lathon

July 24, 1927 — April 17, 2024

Mr. Paster L. Lathon passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his residence in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 96 years. He was born on July 24, 1927, in Ethelsville, Alabama.


Paster was a long-time resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He is a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II (1946-1948), and the Korean Conflict (1951-1953). He received an Honorable Discharge upon completion of his military service. Paster and his wife, Gloria, united with Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roosevelt Austin, and continued to serve under current Pastor, Rodrick A. Smith, until their health failed. Paster was employed by and retired from General Motors (Saginaw Malleable Iron Foundry) for many years. He was affiliated with UAW Local 699. In his leisure time, Paster loved to hunt and work in his garden.


He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters and four sons, JoAnne (Artie) Short, Johnny Porter, Shirley (Gary) Hayes, Jeffery (Sophia ) Moore, Orlando Lathon (Emily Alexandria), Celester (Latondra), Stephanie and Rebecca Lathon; grandchildren, Gloria (Marvin) Smith, Johnny Jr. and Jonathan Porter, James (Sarah) Branch, Stephanie Willis, Fredrick Short, Artie (Patricia) Short, Tony, Tokie, and Monique Springer, Wendell Jr., Jamal, Jovan, and Kiara Haney, Cehana, Justin, and Zyen, Kayla, Laylia, and Xavier Lathon, Shaniece (Chris) Bell, Tearra Frazier, Rahmish and Jeffery Moore; many nieces and nephews; sister and brother-in-law, Angenetta (Willie) Ervin; brother-in-law, Charles Birden Jr.; many relatives and special friends, including his godson, Nathanial Richardson who was very instrumental in Paster’s life for many years.


Paster was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; son, Joseph Porter, and daughters, Zenobia Haney and Christine Springer; his parents, Bessie and Shelton Lathon, and all of his siblings.


The family would like to express special thanks to the Carruth Family, Nathanial Richardson, and Charles Birden Jr. for the special care and support provided for Paster during this very difficult time.
