Ora Loring

January 2, 1939 — July 26, 2025

Lansing

Ora Lee Kline was born on Monday, January 2, 1939, in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Jessie and Maggie Mae Kline. She lived a diligent, beautiful, and blessed life until the Lord called her home on Saturday, July 26,2025, at the age of 86.

The Kline family eventually made their home in Lansing, Michigan, where Ora was educated in theLansing School District and proudly graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1957. She later pursued studies in Business Administration at Lansing Community College.

Ora met and married Edgar Lee Loring, and from this union came three beloved children: Edgar “Durand” Loring, William “Byron” Loring, and Wrae Etta Loring. Though their marriage later ended, their commitment to respectful co-parenting blossomed into a lifelong friendship, and they remained close family.

Early in her career, Ora was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Clinton Canady, DDS. This role became a steppingstone to a fulfilling career with the State of Michigan, Department of State, where she proudly served until retirement. Never one to sit still, Ora continued working as a sales associate at Macy’s in the Lansing Mall until its closure. Even afterward, she remained active, volunteering for many years in the gift shop at Sparrow Hospital.

Ora was passionate about uplifting women and encouraging them to live boldly and joyfully. She founded The New Women Social Group, a community centered on travel and empowerment. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society, finding joy in connection, laughter, and celebration.

“Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.” Ora was an enthusiastic traveler. Her trips to Toronto, Martha’s Vineyard, Cancun, Las Vegas, Colorado, New York City, and Washington, D.C. brought her many cherished memories and a heart full of joy.

A woman of deep faith, Ora united with Friendship Baptist Church and later continued her service at Friendship House of Prayer, where she remained a devoted member until her illness in 2019. She faithfully served on the Usher Board and participated in various ministries with a servant's heart. As written in Hebrews 13:17: “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls…” Ora exemplified that scripture through her commitment and grace.

Ora often said she had “a great, happy life.” Whether playing bingo or spending time with family, she radiated joy and love. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her.

Ora was preceded in death by her mother, Maggie Mae Kline; father, Jessie Kline; sister, Rosie Lee Richardson; and special cousin, Earlene Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memory: children Edgar Durand (Rorshall Johnson) Loring, Deacon William Byron Loring, and Wrae Etta (Michael Flanagan) Loring; four grandchildren: Ashlee McKinney, LaQueita Loring, DeVontae Lauderdale, and Christopher Loring; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Jessie Jr. Kline and Eddie Kline; sisters, Dianne Hawkins and Sonya Colman; special niece Saundra Evette (Clarence) Brown; former husband and lifelong friend, Edgar Lee Loring; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family, and a host of loving friends.
