Ms. Mittie Ann Ross was born March 4, 1950, in Anguilla, Mississippi. In the 75 years the Lord blessed her on this earth, she touched the lives of so many. Mittie was a loving daughter and sister, a dedicated aunt, a stand-out employee, and an influential community member. She genuinely cultivated the relationships in her life, and her consistent generosity of both her time and resources reflected her enormous heart. Mittie attended both the University of Mississippi and Alcorn State University as a young woman before moving to Saginaw, Michigan. There, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and built a fulfilling life of faith.
Mittie worked for Wildfire Credit Union, formerly known as Communications Family Credit Union, for many years before her eventual retirement, and was a valued member of the team. When she wasn't crunching numbers, Mittie could also be found at her second job, Gantos, in Fashion Square Mall, where she displayed her keen sense of style. She was affectionately known to her family as “Pretty Mittie from the City.” Beyond her passion for fashion, Mittie was an avid adventurer and traveled the world with the Umoja Ski Club. She was also an involved member of the Christian community in Saginaw and faithfully served the Lord.
Mittie loved her family and was always ready to provide loving encouragement and support to her beloved siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was a second mother to her niece, Marcia, and husband, Lonnie, and also a grandmother figure to their three children. Mittie spent the last eight years of her life in California with Marcia’s family and went home to meet the Lord on Thursday, September 25th, 2025. Mittie will be dearly and deeply missed, yet her family is overjoyed to know that she is now in perfect peace with the Lord.
She is survived by her sisters Bobbie Jean Ross, Willie Mae Brown, and Alice Marie Venyah; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; longtime friend Jeanette Clark; and many extended family members and friends who loved her.
Mittie is preceded in death by her parents, Benton Ross Sr. and Mittie Ann Ross; brothers, Benton Ross Jr. and Robert Henry Ross; and sisters, Wilma Jean Jones and Jessie Mae Ross.
