Maurice Leslie Nelson was born to Emmitt and Edna Nelson on Friday, November 19, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan. He and his twin brother were the fourteenth and fifteenth children born to their union. Maurice was educated in the Inkster Public School System and graduated from Inkster High School in 1973. After graduation, he briefly attended a trade school for culinary arts. He later secured a position with Ford Motor Company in Wayne, Michigan, where he worked faithfully for 37 years before happily retiring in 2011.
In 1981, Maurice was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost at Bethlehem Temple Church in Belleville, Ml. In that same year, he met Regina Mitchell at a youth convention in Inkster, Michigan. He courted and later married her on May 26, 1984. To this union two daughters and one son were born.
Maurice and his family attended Bethlehem Temple of Belleville, where his love for God's word and God's people grew. After many years, he became an historian in the Apostolic Faith Doctrine and was affectionately called the "Walking Bible #2". Maurice built a library collecting books, tapes, CD's, and other doctrinal literature from many Apostolic organizations. His love for studying the word of God was the greatest priority in his life. His second priority was the provision for his wife, his children and anyone who needed his help along life's path. He would turn any conversation or teachable moment into a bible study and that is what he is most remembered for.
Maurice and his family began attending Greater Bible Way Temple in Jackson, Ml, in 1996, but they did not relocate to Jackson until 2007. He and Regina later joined Bethlehem Temple Church of Jackson, Ml, in 2020, where he served as a deacon until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emmitt Nelson; mother, Edna Nelson; sisters, Bessie McCray, Lessie Pittman, Virginia Nelson, Ernestine Mingo, and Geraldine Williams; and brothers, Eddie Nelson, Robert Nelson, Ernest Nelson, and Charles Nelson. He leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife, Regina Nelson; two daughters, Rachel (Marlon) Burrel and Bethany Horn; one son, Maurice Nelson Jr.; sister, Joann Daniels; identical twin brother, Murry Nelson; ten grandchildren, Mia, Melina, Tre, Mahalia, Duwan Jr., Emmanuel, Donovan, Cole, YeremiYah, and Eli; and a host of nieces, nephews, saints, friends and loved ones.
