Maudie Rogers (Lansing)

January 5, 1933 — May 15, 2023

Our beautiful mother, Maudie Lee Rogers, age 90, was born Thursday, January 5, 1933, in her family home in Ragland, Alabama. She is the youngest daughter of the late Frank and Sally (Thompson) Looney. She peacefully departed this life to her heavenly home on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Dimondale Nursing and Rehab Center.


Immediately following high school Maudie moved to Lansing, Michigan to further her education. Maudie worked as a dental assistant and hygienist with Dr. Clinton Canady until her retirement in 1996. She has been a long-time member of Union Missionary Baptist Church (UMBC) and was an active participant in many ministries. Her most loved ministry was singing in the UMBC Mass Choir. She sang soprano and made many life-long friends in the choir. She also loved traveling and attending many of the James Cleveland and Gospel Music Workshops of America She looked forward to them each year!


Maudie leaves to cherish many beautiful memories of her with her, two daughters, Sonjia Reney Rogers, and Gloria Michele Strong; three sons, Anthony Lamar Rogers, Willie G. (Marilyn) Rogers, Jr., and Mark A. Rogers, all of Lansing, Michigan. She is the proud grandmother of four grandsons, Anthony Lamar (Erica) Rogers of Dallas, Texas, Anthony Strong, Jordan (Lia) Strong, Michael Strong, and one granddaughter, An’Gella (Vernon) Smith all of Lansing, Michigan. She was also blessed and enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, Jaydyn Strong, Jayceon Strong, Ava Strong, Michael Strong, Jr. “MJ”, Harlem Rogers, Parker Strong, and Elijah Strong. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends, and additional family.


Maudie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Sally Looney, and her siblings, Rosetta Thomas, Noah Looney, Oma Wyley, Henrietta Hammonds, and Frankie Davis. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Manuel Davis, Sr. and Shelly Hammonds, and sister-in-law, Utila Looney.
