Martin William Grandmason passed away peacefully in Saginaw, Michigan, on November 2, 2025. He was born on February 18, 1949, in Iron River, the son of Iris (Dack) and Louis Grandmason.
Martin made his home across Michigan, living in Houghton, Lansing, and Saginaw—though his heart never left the Upper Peninsula. After serving in the military and graduating from Michigan Tech University, he worked in hospitality management and later owned and operated his own business.
Martin loved golf, gardening, the Green Bay Packers, and the company of a good dog. In time, he also became a reluctant but devoted cat lover, thanks to his husband, Dr. Robin McKinney. Martin dedicated himself to his family—from driving his elder son, Matthew Grandmason, around the state for countless activities, to caring for his younger son, Matthew McKinney, after school, and supporting Robin through illness and until his passing.
He is survived by his brother, John (Sherol) Grandmason; his sister, Robyn (David) Borchart; his nieces, Nicole, Stacie, Danielle and Samantha; his son, Matthew (Yujin) Grandmason; and his grandson, Samuel, whose Sunday morning video calls were a highlight of both of their weeks.
Martin was preceded in death by his beloved husband, Dr. Robin McKinney; his son, Matthew McKinney; his brother, Philip Grandmason; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, his family invites you to honor him by holding those you love close, enjoying the outdoors, and petting a good dog (they are all good dogs).
