Lansing

It is with great sadness that we announce Marian Holz, 87, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on October 10, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1938, in Brighton, Michigan, but grew up in Highland Park.

Marian was the devoted daughter of John E. and Beatrice (Getty) Martin. A proud 1956 graduate of Highland Park High School. Marian went on to marry her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, Richard Barton Holz, on September 14, 1957 at Outer Drive Presbyterian Church in Detroit. Their marriage was one of enduring devotion and full of laughter. Marian was the cherished mother of Richard and Patricia.

Richard’s job with Ford Motor Company moved them around, living in Livonia, Farmington, Haslett and Lansing, Michigan. Marian loved to be social with her friends and family, play cards, sew, and travel. She looked forward to their family’s annual trek of taking all the kids down to Cedar Point. She also was an avid reader and loved trading bags full of books with her sister. She had an artistic flair and when she went out socially, she liked to look nice. She always put a lot of thought into her clothing. Marian cherished the time she spent with her sister, Mary and her husband’s siblings, Catherine, Marilyn, Bud, Edith and Nancy. Above all Marian loved to spend time with family.

Marian worked for several years as bookkeeper for a women’s clothing store called Maurice’s in the Okemos Mall until she retired.

Later in life Marian attended the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Lansing. She enjoyed volunteering in their food pantry and clothing donations store. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Tri-County Office on Aging. She answered phones for those in need offering words of kindness, encouragement, and support. She always made time to make someone’s day better.

She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the unwavering love she shared with all who knew her.

Survived by her daughter, Patricia Holz; son, Richard M. Holz; grandchildren, Joseph, Richard, Jennifer, Jaide, and Randi as well as great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Brian; both her parents; and sister, Mary (the late Donald) Gee.

A private service will be held. Marian will be laid to rest next to her husband, Richard, in the Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak, Michigan.
