Mrs. Mae K. Barnett, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2025, at the age of 78. Ms. Barnett was born November 28, 1946, in Osceola, Arkansas, to Mary Alice Canada and John Moore.
Mae moved to Saginaw, Michigan, at a young age. She was educated in the Saginaw Public Schools. After leaving high school, Mae started a career with Sun Valley Nursing Home as a Dietary Cook. After 25 years of service, she retired. Mae became a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and served faithfully with her Bridgeport Congregation. One of Mae’s passions was attending Kingdom Hall meetings, conventions, and assisting others in their faith. Mae was a kind, loving, meek, and humble person. She was a virtuous woman. Mae’s sweet spirit was reflected in her decorating/remodeling as well as the love she had for her family and friends.
Mae leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Mary Ann Matthews (Surhaver) and Patricia Ann Davis, Saginaw, Michigan; one son, Demeatrice Davis (Shawnta), Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren, Eshara, Je’wel, Jabreel and De’asia Davis, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Jasmine Davis, Surhaver Matthews II, Cameron Matthews, and Larry Barnett, Jr. all of Saginaw, Michigan, Demetrice Davis Jr. and Demetreona Davis, Tennessee; great-grandchild, DJ Davis, Grand Rapids, Michigan; siblings, Hester Lowery, Detroit, Michigan, Shirley Jones, George (Lizzie) Moore, and Eddie Lee Moore, all of Saginaw, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Diane Barnett; a host of other relatives and friends.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Barnett; parents, John Moore and Mary Alice Canada; bonus dad, Loudis Canada; sisters, Ethel Fayson, Rosie Pittman, and Lula Pearl Canada; brother, Richard Lee Jr; great-grandparents, Ruffus and Geneva Canada; brothers-in-law, Jessie Jones and Oscar Lowery, Sr.
