IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lucille
Bell
May 16, 1937 – January 30, 2026
Ms. Lucille Bell graduated to glory on Friday, January 30, 2026, peacefully and lovingly surrounded by her family at the age of 88 years old. She was born on Sunday, May 16, 1937, to C.W. Thompson and Willie Mae Florence, in Birmingham, Alabama.
Lucille attended and graduated from Tuskegee High School in 1955. She moved to Michigan around 1968. She held jobs at Meijer, Service America, Gregory’s, and EDM Tax Service. She was also an avid seamstress. Lucille accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was previously an active member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Lansing, Michigan where she was an Usher and cheerfully served wherever she could. Her personal life was no different – she served in any way possible. No matter what she was doing, she was the epitome of servant leadership and a life well-lived.
Lucille enjoyed sewing, ironing, watching action movies, reading, and cooking. One of her passions and expressions of love was her cooking. Her 7UP pound cake was notoriously loved by everyone who’s tried it. Though Lucille had no children of her own, she had a hand in raising her nieces and nephews, their children, and their children’s children. Lucille’s love of children kept her active. “A life that touches others goes on forever.” Lucille will be forever loved and missed more than words can say.
Lucille will be lovingly remembered by 9 nieces and nephews: Annette Crenshaw, Johnita Thompson – both of Georgia, Tim Richardson of Texas, Darryl Thompson, Valerie Thompson (Orlando) Webster, Rhonda Thompson, Dwayne Thompson (Jackie Salazar), Antoine Cooks - all of Michigan, and her devoted niece, Cynthia Richardson, also of Michigan, who provided unwavering care, friendship, and support during the final chapter of her life; 31 great nieces and nephews; 42 great-great nieces and nephews (two on the way); many special cousins; and countless additional relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John C. (Ann) Thompson and Willie James (Tommie Lou) Thompson; sister, Lela Thompson; nephews, Reginald Thompson and Kenneth Henderson; nieces, Toni Standifer and Michelle Thompson; great nephew, Jaylen Richardson-Green; and great-great nephew, Cameron Kayden Atwood.
