In Loving Memory of Johnny Dale Brown

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnny Dale Brown, who left this world on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the age of 61 years. Born on Saturday, September 19, 1964, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, Johnny was one of five siblings.

As a young child, he moved with his family to Lansing, Michigan, where he spent the rest of his life. To those who knew him, Johnny was a gentle giant. Standing 6'5", his size was matched only by the kindness of his heart. He was soft-spoken, compassionate, and treated everyone with warmth and respect. A fourth-grade teacher once affectionately described him as "a big teddy bear," a description that perfectly captured his gentle nature.

In his younger years, he was full of life. He had an infectious sense of humor, a magnetic personality, and the ability to make anyone laugh. He loved basketball and football during high school and had a lifelong passion for music. He believed there was beauty in every genre and even spent time as a DJ locally when he was younger.

More than anything, Johnny devoted his life to caring for the people he loved. He lovingly cared for his mother when she could no longer care for herself. Later, he faithfully cared for his wife throughout her time of illness, until her passing. In the years that followed, he dedicated himself to caring for his beloved son with unwavering love and commitment. His greatest pride and deepest love were his two children. They were the center of his world.

In later years, Johnny faced the difficult challenges of depression and agoraphobia, illnesses that gradually narrowed his world. Though these struggles changed the course of his life, they never changed the goodness of his heart. Those who loved him choose to remember the joyful, funny, compassionate man who could light up a room and make strangers feel like friends.

He leaves behind his loving daughter, Desirae Ortiz; his beloved son, Jared Brown; two cherished grandsons, Emmanuel and Ezekiel, who brought him great joy; his siblings; extended family; and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

His laughter, kindness, selflessness, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
