John Johnson

November 14, 1959 — July 9, 2025

Saginaw

John Kevin Johnson was born on November 14, 1959, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Basil and Mary Lou Johnson. He passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at his residence in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 65 years.

John was a graduate from Bridgeport High School, Class of 1977; he attended Northwood University. He was an incredibly savvy and accomplished businessman. For over 35 years, he owned and operated Tri-City Dairy Fountain Supply and Convenient Party Store. John was also the owner of In Your Ear Music Productions and was a special events DJ. When his children were young, he coached their soccer, baseball, and softball teams. After coming home from a 12-hour workday, John never once turned down a game of kickball, 500, basketball, or catch. He ate dinner with his family every evening and never left the house without telling them how much he loved them. John was President of St. Lorenz PTA, played on volleyball and golf leagues, was active in the Frankenmuth Lions Club, became a licensed sky diver, kept the beat as a prolific and talented musician, and flourished as a well-respected baseball umpire.

John recorded at least seven albums in all different genres, and he was the drummer for many bands including: HUGG, Full Gainer, BSS, GTJAM, The Tosspints, The Juice Roosters, Rosewood Blue, and Tequila Town. In 2010, John retired from the business world and graduated from Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School in 2011. For the last 15 years, he was an amazing umpire for many high school, college, and competitive adult baseball organizations. Each Fall, John looked forward to throwing on his “blues” in Fort Myers, Florida, to make calls at the annual Roy Hobbs World Series. He was an avid baker, golfer, sports enthusiast (Go Tigers!), concertgoer, traveler, gardener, pinball wizard, and nonstop jokester.

Spending time with family and friends was important to John. He loved swimming in his pool, attending extracurriculars, passing down music, and going on trips with his children and grandchildren. They were his world, and he was theirs. John had a unique way of connecting with everyone he met and enriching the lives of friends and loved ones. Those who were fortunate to have known him can attest to his empathy, kindness, positivity, values, and wisdom. He was the most REMARKABLE son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend for life.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Shelby Weigandt Grand Blanc, Michigan; one son, Tyler Johnson, Saginaw, Michigan; two granddaughters, Molly Weigandt and Charlotte Weigandt; one grandson, Tristen Johnson; one step-granddaughter, Rivyn Scofield; one sister, Judy Morin (Dale); one niece, Heather Dawson (Arica); one nephew, Brian Dawson (Elizabeth); one great-niece, Vivienne Dawson;  his significant other, Suzy Pollick and their dog, Mercy; many other relatives and friends; John also leaves special friends, Lacee Smith and family, Barry Gross, Ben Parker, Greg Winters, Randy Brown and family, Steve Neal, Rod McDivitt, and Michelle Stewart. John was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Mary Lou Johnson.
