John F. Hudson

Mr. John F. Hudson passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper Campus, at the age of 80 years.

John was born on August 9, 1946, in Ackerman, Mississippi, the son of Sylvester Hudson and Sarah Bess Weir. He was raised in Ackerman, Mississippi, and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church in Ackerman, Mississippi. John served as a youth usher and, as an adult, sang with the male chorus at Pilgrim Baptist Church. After many years of dedicated employment, John retired from General Motors.

John loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed barbecuing, listening to the blues, traveling, going to the casino, watching old Western movies, and cheering on his beloved Detroit Lions. He loved him some black-eyed peas and neckbones. Christmas was his favorite holiday, and, of course, he loved his birthday and celebrated the entire month of August. John was loved by many and was the type of person who would do anything for anyone. His loving spirit, generosity, humor, and warm personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

John leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life his loving wife, Denise Hudson; four children, Valencia (Kenny) Smith, Angela (Bernard) Price, and Manethia Banks; and La’Key (Donta) Woods. He also leaves six stepchildren, Trenna (JW) Martin, Romance (Gracie) Holliman, Turquoise (Darrell) Meeks, Charles M. Blue, Jazekka (DeMerrick) Williamson, and Melvin Brewer Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren, Jeffery Times-Hudson, Aiesha Harris, Mariah Banks, Jasmine Nunley, Tayler Logan, along with many bonus grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Richard Maher IV, Londyn Blackmon, Divina Steward, Carter Thomas, and Cep’Tember Thomas, along with many bonus great-grandchildren; one brother, James Hudson of Chicago, Illinois; niece, Colleen Smith; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; three brothers-in-law, Alonzo Bowman El, Mark Stanley Bowman El, and John F. Kennedy Bowman; special nieces, Sarah Woods and Mattie McDaniel's; special cousins, James and Shirley Young; special friends, Osborne Pugh, Herbert Riley, Valaria "Lady" Benson,  Oscar and Kim Williams, and many others who held a special place in his heart.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Hudson and Sara Bess Weir; his children, Aaron Hudson and Darryl Robinson; his siblings, Mamie Lloyd Shells, Mattie Triplett, Eva Cork, and Sonny Sylvester Hudson; and his mother-in-law, Marilyn "Cookie" Pennywell.

John F. Hudson will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to live on through his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
