Mr. John Anton Howlett moved from labor to reward in Holt, Michigan on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 69 years. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on Friday, October 21, 1955, the son of James Howlett and Betty J. (Davenport) Howlett.
John was a lifelong resident of the Lansing area. He was a graduate member of the Class of 1975 at Harry Hill High School. John was a proud General Motors Corporation retiree, having 34 years of service in skilled trades and assembly with Fisher Body. He enjoyed several hobbies including cooking, bowling, recreational basketball and was a proud Michigan State University athletics fan (Go Green, Go White!). John enjoyed the arts and enrolled in art classes at Lansing Community College. His greatest joy was his love for his family, truly a devoted family man, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. John dedicated his life to true hard work, faith, and compassion. He served at Friendship Baptist Church and sang in the choir for several years. John later became a member of Tithe Missionary Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Kimmie Howlett; son, Jerrod Anton (Amanda Olmstead) Howlett of Brooklyn, New York and daughter, Anisha Jahnaye Howlett of Detroit, Michigan; granddaughter, Amara Nicole Howlett of Brooklyn, New York; 3 sisters, Jean Howlett-Aikens, Marianne Howlett-Gibson, and Annette Howlett-Hill; 2 brothers, James Howlett, Jr. and Thomas N. Watkins, Jr.; 14 nieces, Tiara Howlett-Halliburton, Robin Aikens-Smith, Miriam Howlett, Monique Aikens, Lesley Rucker, Kasic Howlett, Keyone Howlett, Monique McDonald, Kimmikee McDonald, Raven Odom, Fredricka Booth, Kiersten Scruggs, Charice Scruggs, and Chanelle Clarke; 13 nephews, Andre Aikens, Donte Howlett-Gibson, Antone Howlett-Gibson, Thomas Rucker, Ryan Gibson, Trae Howlett, Tyrone Howlett, Fred Booth, Jacob Odom, Josh Odom, Michael Edwards, Maurice Edwards, and Melvin Clarke; parents-in-law, David and Frances Odom, Sr., sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Booth, Darlene Scruggs, Mary Bailey, and Cynthia Edwards; brothers-in-law, David Odom, Jr. and Joey Buckley; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty J. Howlett-Watkins, James Howlett, Sr.; stepfather, Thomas N. Watkins, Sr.; sister, Darlene Howlett-Williams; 2 brothers, Arnold Howlett and Jerome Howlett.
