L.J. Nickerson of East Lansing, Michigan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the age of 83 years. He was born on Wednesday, December 31, 1941, in Carson City, Michigan. He was the son of O.V. and Vivian Nickerson.
L.J. graduated from Carson City High School in 1960. Then he attended Findlay College and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He also earned a master’s degree in music from Michigan State University. L.J. began lessons at an early age and was an exceptional pianist and organist. He was an elementary educator, band director and choir instructor. For many years, he was an organist and choir director in the Methodist church in Greenville, Michigan.
L.J. was a man of deep-rooted faith and enjoyed attending church and going to Bible studies, especially at Liberty Church in Grand Ledge. He also loved listening to music on his stereo or enjoying a good meal at a restaurant. Spending time with his wonderful friends was a highlight of his life. His favorite ritual was going to Grand Traverse Pie Company in the morning for a cup of tea, a muffin and conversation with his friends. L.J. had a wonderful sense of humor and had a gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
He is survived by his two daughters Chere (David) Phillips, and Alice (Derek) Lytle; grandson, Luke Phillips; and nephew, Brian Nickerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents O.V. and Vivian Nickerson; grandmother, Nova Smith; and brother, Arden.
