April 18, 1946 — April 2, 2026

Saginaw

Mr. Jesse Ray Amos, affectionately known as “Jake,” answered the heavenly roll call on April 2, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on a bright spring day, April 18, 1946, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jesse was the eighth of twelve children born to Bertha and Isaac Smith.

Jesse attended elementary school in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. He later graduated from the historical Brown High School in Springhill, Louisiana. After completing his education, Jesse enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably and received an honorable discharge.

Jesse met and married Betty Epps. Their union lasted forty-six years and was blessed with three sons: Victor, Patrick, and Nicholas Amos. He was a loving husband and devoted family man.

Jesse relocated his family from Louisiana to Saginaw, Michigan in 1967, seeking new opportunities and a fresh start. Jesse was employed by General Motors, where he worked diligently and retired after twenty-eight years of service. His commitment to his work and family was evident in everything he did.

Jesse was known for being a hardworking, caring, and fun-loving person; he was always someone you could rely on. He was supportive and dependable, never hesitating to lend a helping hand. Jesse enjoyed fishing, sharing endless jokes and stories, and always bringing laughter wherever he went. He loved attending social events, showcasing his dance moves, and had a distinct flair for fashion—dressing to impress with hats, shoes, and suits. Jesse also had a passion for traveling.

Jesse leaves to cherish his legacy and memories; son, Victor (Colette) Amos Sr., Mesquite, Texas; three grandchildren, Victor Amos Jr., Saginaw, Michigan, Nicholas Amos Jr., Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Shaniqua Davis, Mesquite, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Thomas (Beverly) Smith, Cotton Valley, Louisiana, Loretta Smith, Cotton Valley, Louisiana, and Elijah (Veronica) Smith, Garland Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends, including special friend, Carol Hood.

Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Amos; parents, Bertha and Isaac Smith; and sons, Nicholas and Patrick Amos.
