Mr. Jerry Carter departed this life Friday, August 21, 2026, at The Willows at East Lansing in East Lansing, Michigan. Age 79 years. He was born Saturday, January 18, 1947, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, to Amanda and James Carter. He was a longtime resident of Lansing, Michigan, where he built a life centered around family, faith, hard work, community, and the things he loved.
Jerry was a proud high school graduate and a dedicated cement contractor. He owned and operated J Carter & Company, taking great pride in his work and earning a reputation as a hardworking man. Jerry had a tremendous love for sports. He was a sports referee, officiating all sports and enjoyed both watching and being a part of the games. He was a devoted Michigan State fan and proudly volunteered at Michigan State University sporting events across all sports. Jerry also had a love for cars and enjoyed cooking. He was deeply involved with Holmes Road Church, where his faith and involvement in the church community were an important part of his life. Those who knew Jerry will remember him as a hardworking, funny, and peaceable person. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and was loved by his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
Jerry's life was one of service, love, laughter, faith, and dedication. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Roderick (Angel Vasquez) Carter, and LeKeisha (Nick) Edmonds; his grandchildren, Delana Carter, Ashlee Jones, Ronald Jabari Carter, Dae’Veon Rembert, SaRae Rembert, Kimora Rembert, Alania Henry, Kyzahn Rembert, Aria Jones, Alvin Bryant, and Toni Bryant; his bonus son, Keith Rembert; his daughter-in-law, Darolyn Carter; his brother, Ted (Patra) Carter; his sister-in-law, Maxine (Durvin) Coward; his special friend, Erma Sanders; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lula Faye Carter; son, Ronald Carter; parents, James and Amanda Carter.
