Honoring the life of Mr. Jerome Austin Sr.

Mr. Jerome Austin was called home on Friday, January 2, 2026, with his daughters and Ms. Felicia by his side. Age 67 years. Jerome was born on Monday, April 7, 1958, to Roy and Mattie Lee Austin in Birmingham, Alabama.

Shortly after birth, Jerome’s parents relocated their family to Lansing, Michigan, where he grew up and was very active in basketball and wrestling. He attended Harry Hill High School and graduated with his Diploma in 1976. During high school, Jerome met the love of his life, Felicia Clayborn. The two of them married and from this union came their children, Fatima and Jerome Austin, Jr.

In 1978, Jerome honorably served his country in the United States Army, a testament to his strength, commitment, and sense of responsibility. After his time in the service, he held many jobs around Lansing including General Motors Corporation - Fisher Body, State of Michigan Department of Treasury and other places of employment. Later in life, Jerome met Clara Holmberg and they were blessed with their daughter, Stacy Austin.

Jerome had a larger-than-life personality with a heart to match it. He loved to play around, make people laugh, and see others smile. Known for getting on people’s nerves—always in good fun—Jerome brought energy and joy wherever he went. He also had a generous spirit and was famous for giving things away, often offering what he had without hesitation. He carried those values into his everyday life, showing up for others in both big and small ways. Whether through humor, conversation, or a simple act of kindness, Jerome made people feel welcomed and cared for. He enjoyed riding his bike and listening to music, especially the songs “Heart of a Woman” by Summer Walker and “Burning Blue” by Mariah the Scientist. One of his greatest joys was being picked up by his grandson, Ardis to ride around in the Oldsmobile Cutlass, listening to “How Do U Want It” by Tupac. Jerome was really fulfilled in life when he relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan, closer to his daughter Fatima (his Meta). This is when he was able to hold and play with Shilah (his Shi-Shi), as well as give Oreo cookies to Tay’Veon (his Tay- Tay) and Jasai (his Cookie Monster).

He leaves to cherish his memory with his children, Fatima Austin-Davis, Jerome Anthony Austin Jr., Stacy (Rodney) Moore, and bonus daughter, Love Seay; grandchildren, Tyronique Davis, Jaden Austin, Giovanni Austin, Tay’Veon Davis, Jasai Moore, and Shilah Moore; sisters: Gail (Earl) Robertson, Vickie (Mack) Quinney, and Lorraine Austin; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Joyce.

Jerome was preceded in death by his grandson, Ardis Davis; parents, Mattie Lee and Roy Austin; brothers, Mark Austin and Ruddy Gibbs; sister, Cynthia Austin; and his nephew, Darnell Watson. Though deeply missed, their memories remained close to him and continued to shape the love he shared with his family.

Jerome will be remembered for his laughter, his playful ways, and his giving heart. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren, who embody his humor and kindness.
