Janie Sue Robinson (Lansing)

May 14, 1935 — April 24, 2014

Today we celebrate the life of a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and most importantly a child of God. Janie Sue McPeak Robinson was born May 14, 1935 in Piney Ridge, Clark County, Arkansas to Amon and Mary Susie McPeak. Janie was the last surviving McPeak of her generation. Janie received her formal education in the Gurdon, Arkansas School System. After graduating, she and her sister Geneva moved to Florida for a short time, before relocating to Lansing, Michigan. Janie was married to Herbert Robinson, Sr. Janie accepted Christ at an early age. She was a dedicated member of St. Paul Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Perry Robinson. Later she became a founding member of New St. Paul Church of God in Christ under the leadership of her brother-in-law, Superintendent Jessie Lee Williams, where she served faithfully on the trustee and usher boards, sewing circle and YWCC departments until failing health. Janie was known for her talent of knitting and often donated her beautifully crafted afghans to church fundraising raffles. Janie retired from Dean Transportation after 38 years of loyal service.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Maun Ali Muhammad and Herbert (Cindy) Robinson, Jr., who remained devoted and caring until the end; four grandsons, Myles Robinson, DeAndre Robinson, Michael Desi, Joey Desi; one granddaughter, Jazmine Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Giovanni Desi, Lucinda Desi; two special nieces, Mae (Robert) McGee, Suzanne Davis Minter; many other relatives and friends.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Amon and Mary Susie McPeak, sisters, Ernestine Shelton, Hattie Payne, Girtha Baltimore, Lila Summerville, Mae Byrd Elliott, Geneva Blackman, Theadosie Williams, Willie Jean Graves; brothers, Murmon Beaver, Andrew Carter, Herbert Carter, Genolie McPeak, Benny McPeak, Dougal McPeak, Charles McPeak and many other loved ones.
