James A. Leggions, Jr.

Mr. James Leggions, Jr. peacefully departed this life on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the age of 78 years. He was born on March 21, 1947, in Decatur, Illinois, the beloved son of Gladola Harris and James Leggions, Sr.

During his early years, James developed a strong work ethic and a love for working with his hands—qualities that shaped the course of his life. In the early 1990s, he and his family made the move from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lansing, Michigan, where he would establish deep roots and lasting friendships.

James was a gifted mechanic, admired for his skill, precision, and dedication to his craft. He took great pride in his work and was especially fond of Cadillacs, which became a passion as well as a source of joy. Away from the garage, James found peace in the quiet of nature, spending many hours fishing.

James leaves to cherish his memory: children, Marvin (Marilyn) Leggions of Decatur, Illinois, Trulane (Ramon) Rhymes-Pea of Lansing, Michigan, Jessica (Jamone) Hegwood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Tanekia (Lachaka) McCorker of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Brandon Leggions, Gerald Leggions, Sandra Leggions, Chris Leggions, Marvin Cook, Jr., Malaysia Cook, Victor Cook, Ashley Cook, ShaQuille Rhymes, ShaQuaille Rhymes, Jace White, JaCori Hegwood, and Jiana Hegwood; brothers, Gary Lamont Young, Oscar Jose Young, and James Clarence Leggions, all of Lansing, Michigan; nephew, Lewis Leggions, Jr. of Watertown, New York; special niece, Sheila A. Manns “Punkin”; and special nephew, Gary F. Manns. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughters, Gwennetta Leggions and one other; grandson, Jheremiah Leggions; mother, Gladola Harris; father, James Leggions, Sr.; and siblings, big sister, Gertie May Leggions, little sister, Sheila Ann Leggions, and baby brother, Lewis Charles Leggions, Sr.
