James Callahan

James Lee Callahan was called home to be with “Paw-Paw” and “Granny” on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Age 84 years. He was born Wednesday, July 30, 1941, in East Pointe, Georgia to Melvin and Willie Mae Callahan. He was an only child with a large family.

He was introduced to Christ at an early age. The family later moved to Lansing, Michigan where he attended Eastern High School and graduated. James served in the United States Army from 1963-1965 as a Paratrooper and Marksman. James and his wife, Johnnie, were married on June 4, 1979. She was his heartbeat, his favorite girl. He was a truck driver and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Johnnie, where they both were employed at Oasis Catering for several years. He loved to barbecue and spend time with his family. He also enjoyed sports, fishing and going to the casino.

James leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Johnnie; daughters and sons, Lisa, Darnell, Glenda, Sue, Myra, Chantile, Clint, Kesha, Mekie, Demetrius Stank; Sharie, Alex, Rashad Tara, Lil Jimmy, Sharonda, Sharay and Shamarrie; grandchildren, Nikita, DeOndra’, Camille, Carmen, Paul, Brittney, Brandy, Jade, Troshad, Christian, Keevan, Makil, Kelap, Janessa, Jibron, Wayne, Shannel, Armaree, D’Metriyana, D’Metriyan, Jalen, EJ, Tyrese, Andre, Shyona, Sandquita, Caprice, Alexis, Alana, Sha’Nyah, and La’Nayjah; 40 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandsons; special sister, Brenda Lathon; many cousins including special cousins, Fannie, May, Tommy and Ethel; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cassandra; son, Chet; granddaughters, Paradise, Kiara, and Ja’Nayjah; great-grandsons Kylete, and Elijah, London; and cousin, Dorothy.
