Herbert Clavorn Jackson, Jr. entered the world on December 28, 1950, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the late Herbert C. Jackson, Sr., and Dorothy L. Bynum Jackson. He was the eldest of five children born to their union.
From an early age, Herbert displayed a strong sense of faith and dedication to his church. He joined Ludden Chapel Baptist Church as a child and was an active participant in Sunday School, Baptist Training Union (BTU), church services, and the Youth Choir throughout his upbringing. He remained a lifelong member who contributed financially as well as remodeling portions of Ludden Chapel, and when he returned to Monroe, he attended both church and Sunday School religiously.
After graduating from Little Flower Academy, Herbert pursued higher education at Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. He was proud to be the first member of his immediate family to graduate from college.
Shortly after completing his degree, Herbert married his former wife, Annie Smith Jackson, and together they welcomed their first child, Tresha Jackson.
The family eventually relocated to Michigan, where Herbert began his professional career at Chrysler Corporation in research and development. He later moved to Midland, Michigan, and joined Dow Chemical. While at Dow, he was part of the team that developed well-known cleaning products and held patents for many formulation compounds still used in the pharmaceutical industry today. During this time, his second child, Herbert “Clave” Jackson,III was born.
Herbert concluded his professional career at Consumers Energy, where he was responsible for inspecting and testing the coal used in power plants across Michigan until his retirement. He continued to pursue education and personal growth, earning an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.
Outside of work, Herbert had many passions and talents. He was an excellent bowler and an avid golfer—hobbies that brought him lifelong friendships he deeply cherished. He was known for engaging in thoughtful conversations about world events and was often the go-to person among friends for advice on home improvement projects. A true jack-of-all-trades, Herbert had exceptional skill in woodworking, home repairs, and automobile maintenance. He took great pride in tackling home projects and was always eager to lend a hand to others.
Herbert's love for his family was immeasurable. He was always willing to offer support and encouragement, helping his loved ones strive toward greatness. He upheld and passed down the same values instilled in him by his parents: “Education and faith in God are the keys to your future and a better life.”
He leaves to cherish his memory children, Tresha L. Jackson of Allentown, Pennsylvania and Herbert “Clave” Jackson III (Cherlei) of Midland, Michigan; grandchildren, Jaylin Hammond of Andover, Massachusetts, Arianna Jackson, Elijah Jackson, Sophia Jackson, and Josiah Jackson, all of Midland, Michigan; silblings, Ledwenia Coulberson (Elmore), Jeffery Jackson, Sr. (preceded in death), Connie Staten (David), and Dorothy A. Page; and many nieces, nephews, and lifeling friends.
Herbert has left a legacy of strength and love for his family and friends. We deeply cherish the time, love, guidance, and wisdom he shared with us throughout his life. Although he is no longer with us physically, his legacy will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
