First Lady Helen Virginia Murchison lived a full life until her transition from labor to reward on Friday, May 8, 2026, with her sister Carrie by her side in Lansing, Michigan. Age 85 years. She was born on Friday, February 14, 1941, in Malvern, Arkansas. Helen was the first of seven children born to Mary and Benjamin Diggins.

Helen graduated from the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff with her Bachelor of Science Degree. She then met and married Richard Murcison. They built their life together Lansing, Michigan. where they had a son, Maurice. Her career as an educator extends for over 55 years, employed with various Lansing day cares and schools. She subsequently retired from the Waverly School District.

In 1995, she and Elder Murchison built the New Community Tabernacle Church of God in Christ at which time she became the First Lady. Helen was a true woman of God and one of the kindest souls you ever met. She had a sweet smile, a lady of few words but possessed a heart of gold. Throughout the years, she dedicated time to several positions within the Church of God in Christ and a willing worker in all churches she attended. Helen was a remarkable mother, wife, and friend. She loved to cook, was an excellent baker, and an avid reader. First Lady studied the Bible and truly lived by the Word of God. Even through all of her trials and tribulations, she kept the faith and chose to quote scripture instead of complaining.
