Grace Voltz

Ms. Grace Marie Voltz passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Covenant Healthcare Harrison. Age 78 years. She was born December 11, 1945, in Gallion, Alabama, the 3rd child of John Henry and Susie Mae Williams Hughes.

Grace was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan, having relocated from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1966. She was a graduate of Boteler High School. Grace accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Jacob's Ladder Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor K.T. Draine. She retired from Luther Manor Nursing Home in 2011 after many years of service. Grace loved working in her yard and sewing. She enjoyed baking; however, she was happy to dine on meals prepared by others. Grace loved family gatherings and enjoyed going to church. She cherished her grandchildren and would often jokingly say "If the grandkids were born first, I wouldn't have had children." She was passionate about attending activities for her great-grandchildren. Grace enjoyed sitting for hours talking about "the good old days." She had a quiet and calm demeanor yet expressed herself powerfully. Grace was kind and caring to others.

She leaves to cherish loving, and wonderful memories, three daughters: Debbie Voltz, Tawnya (Cliff) Simon, and Danielle Voltz, all of Saginaw, Michigan; three grandchildren: Derrick and ShaKeisha Voltz of Saginaw, Michigan, and DeVario Voltz of Wheeling, Illinois; six great-grandchildren: DJ, Sha'Niyah, Sha'Mari, Sha'Laiyah, and Dominic Voltz, and Malachi Tolliver-Voltz, all of Saginaw, Michigan; sisters: Henrietta Hughes, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Josephine Blount, and Brenda (Charles) Prewitt, both of Alabama; brother, Donald (Ruby) Hughes, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sister-in-law, Dottie Hughes, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Grace Marie was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Hughes and Susie Mae Williams Hughes; stepmother, Lena Hughes; sisters: Louise Tyree, Bernice Griffin, Janie Little, Mandy Lee Tatum, and Willie Mae Colvin; brothers: Willie Hughes, Sr., and Johnny Hughes; also, a special cousin, James Hooper.
