George Redeemer, Jr.

Saginaw

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, George Redeemer Jr., affectionately known as “Honey” or “Foo Foo,” peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the age of 74.

George was born on December 26, 1950, to George and Margaret Redeemer Sr. George was raised and resided in Saginaw, MI. George was a member of New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend M. T. Thompson. George then transitioned to Galilee Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Luciose Lewis Jr. The Redeemer family was a founding member of New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, True Vine Baptist, and Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.

George attended Saginaw public schools and graduated from Saginaw High School’s class of 1969. George retired from General Motors Saginaw Metal Casting Operations (Gray Iron) in 1998. George served in the Vietnam War and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. George married Mary Elizabeth Greenlee on March 3, 1973, and shared 30 years of matrimony until she passed on February 25, 2003.

George enjoyed going fishing, playing chess, cruising around town, barbecuing on the grill, and helping others in need. George was known as “Mr. Fix It” because he was well-versed in repairs and never met a stranger. George would hold a conversation with anyone and was affectionately known as “Honey,” coined by his late wife, Liz. Those who knew George on an intimate level knew that he loved the Lord and avidly read one of his many Bibles that he stored in several places around the house. George will be missed by all but will live on eternally in the hearts and lives of all he touched.

George leaves behind three children: Detrena Greenlee, Miyoshia (Bruce) Simmons Sr., and George Redeemer III; eight grandchildren, Kyondra (Antatius) Redeemer, Tanzania Carruth, Tunisia Carruth, Riomonique Redeemer, Darrick Carruth II, Bruce Simmons Jr., Eliza Simmons, and Camille Redeemer; three great-grandchildren, Kyarah Singleton, Gregory Rutherford III, and KeonTay Singleton.
