Felipe "Phil" Guillermo Herrera, aged 69, died peacefully on March 17, 2026 in the arms of his beloved partner Vickie.
Phil was born on June 7, 1956 in Yale MI to Juanita and Guillermo Herrera. He grew up in Charlotte, Michigan graduating from Charlotte High School in 1974. Phil lived most of his life in Lansing and proudly retired from General Motors as a Master Tinsmith and member of Local 652. He was one of the hardest working people you'd ever know and family and friends have many stories of him fixing things around their homes just because he noticed them and because he had the ability to do it.
He loved all things outdoors and spent a lot of time camping, hunting, boating, golfing and riding horses. In recent years he found heaven on earth working for his beloved Michigan State Spartans down on the football field. Go green! Phil and his best friend Rod have been making and supplying us with the world's best salsa for more than 20 years; a tradition that will continue but will never be the same. We will always remember him when we hear the music of Waylon Jennings, Neil Young or Bob Seger.
Phil was preceded in death by his mother Juanita Brown; father Guillermo Herrera; brothers Tomas, Alfredo and Daniel Herrera.
He leaves to cherish his memory his partner Vickie Wheatley; sister Lydia Alexander; eight nieces and nephews; best friend Rod Vedder; and multiple Tío's, Tía's, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Vickie and Stacey would like to express special thanks to the amazing people at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. We cannot thank you enough for helping Phil as he moved from his life earthside to starting his new role as an ancestor.
