Emma Louise Lucas departed this life on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the age of 78 years. She was born to Waverly and Versia Pope on April 5, 1932 in Memphis,
Tennessee. She accepted Christ at an early age and has always worked faithfully in the House of the Lord. Under the leadership of Pastor C.W. Hill she organized the Second Baptist Nurses Guild and served diligently as president for many years. Spending time with her family was a joy to her soul, especially when she could cook! We all loved her cooking; especially the dressing and sweet potato pie. She was a very good cook and were still trying to get her dressing, some of us almost have it! She took great pride in shopping and matching her clothes from head to toe. We learned about serving God under her watchful eye and followed her leadership in our walk with God.
The mother of 14 children, she leaves to cherish her memory seven daughters and one son. Shellie Smith, Mae Burney, Mary Griffin, Jacqueline Jackson, Terri (Jerry) Martin, Evelyn (Sammie) Campbell, Pamela Chaffer (Jessie Askew) and Ronnie Wilkins. She also leaves her only sister Olivia McKinley of Memphis, Tennessee. Three aunts Mattie Conner of Chicago, Illinois, Elizabeth Joyner of Bay City, Michigan and Mary Jones of Madison, Illinois. One sister-in-law Cora L. Triplett. 38 Grandchildren, 56 Great-Grandchildren and Eight Great-Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband the late John L. Lucas, Sr. four infant children, two sons John L. Lucas, Jr. and Michael Wilkins; four Son-In-Laws Jerry Smith, Nathaniel Burney, Cary Griffin and Frederick Jackson, one Daughter-In-Law Darlene Wilkins and two Grandson-In-Laws Michael Ford and Douglas Martin Lowery. A special thanks to Willie Lee McClain and
Anniesha King for the care you gave our mother.
