Edward George Robinson, Sr.

Mr. Edward G. Robinson, Sr. “Ed” departed this life on Friday, August 14, 2026, after a brief illness, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born on June 16, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Edward B. Robinson and Evelyn Boston.

Following high school, Edward enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country for nine years. After his military service, he moved to Saginaw, where he worked for General Motors for many years. Edward enjoyed traveling, fishing, spending time with family, watching wrestling, and communicating with members of CB clubs, where he was known by his handle, “Black Jew.” He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. In 1966, he met the love of his life, Ernestine Spellman. They married on October 23, 1971, and shared 60 years together.

Edward gave his life to Christ at a young age. He and his wife joined Emanuel St. Mark United Church of God in Christ, and later Christ Fellowship Church, where he served as Head Usher and gladly helped wherever needed. Active and energetic, he was never one to sit still. After retiring from GM in 1987, he joined Saginaw High School as a hall monitor. He did more than keep the halls clear of students skipping class—he inspired and encouraged them to attend school and go to class. He loved the students, and they affectionately called him “Granddaddy.”

Edward leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of just shy  55 years, Ernestine Robinson; two sons and eight daughters; Edward Robinson Jr., “Gee Gee” of Saginaw, Michigan; Nathaniel Wilson of Seattle, Washington; LaTanya Robinson of Baltimore, Maryland; Patricia Barnes of Los Angeles, California; Betty Bady of Palmdale, California; Shirley Tatum of Los Angeles, California; Cassandra (Ivory) Burtin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Pankie (Douglas) Harris of Saginaw, Michigan; Lana (Joseph) Holmes of Florissant, Missouri; and Rosalind Spellman of St. Louis, Missouri. He is also survived by one brother, Paul (Veronica) Boston of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Trina Beard and Cheryl Scarbough, both of Baltimore, Maryland; 26 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Tynescia Mitchell of Baltimore, Maryland; a special sister-in-law, Barbara Boston of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Boston and Edward B. Robinson; his grandmother, Blanche Williams; his brother, John Boston; his sisters, Carlean and Beverly Boston; his son, James P. Spellman; and his great-grandson, Jon Andre.
