Mr. Edward Florian Panasiewicz, Jr. passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, after a brief illness, at home with his loving wife, Cheryl, by his side. Ed was born December 6, 1938, in Lansing, Michigan, to Edward and Wilhelmina Panasiewicz, the first of four children born to the couple.
Ed was raised Catholic and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School, where he played football. After graduating, Ed went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard. Later, he would work at St. Lawrence hospital in Lansing, Michigan, as a medical assistant. Ed also worked at the Addison Fire Department as an EMT. In later years, Ed served as president of the local chapter of State of Michigan Retirees Association (SERA).
Ed studied at Michigan State University and then settled into a job working at the State of Michigan with juveniles at secure locations. The State of Michigan assigned Ed to the Arbor Heights Center where he continued his career, and retired after 32 years of service. The kids of these facilities loved him; always affectionately referring to him as “Mr. P.” These kids were often welcome in the Panasiewicz home.
Ed and Cheryl were married December 7, 1993; he was not only loved and admired by Cheryl’s ten children, but they also lovingly called him “Poppy Ed”. He was always referring to Cheryl his Nubian Queen and she knew not to call Ed late for dinner.
He was an avid reader; history was his favorite subject; which is why Jeopardy was his favorite show. And there wasn’t a crossword puzzle Ed could not complete. Golf was Ed’s passion and football his favorite sport. He and a friend, Odessa Lockhart could be heard screaming about football games from blocks away. In his free time, Ed liked to help set up bingo hall tables in Lansing. He enjoyed driving. In fact, Ed had drove about 95% of the United States. Also, he took particular pleasure in dining out at many restaurants; if you named one, and he had probably been and could recommend a wonderful dish to enjoy. Ed found himself the only male on an all-female bowling team, they simply adored him.
In his later life, Ed joined the Assembly of Yahwee, where he served faithfully for several years
