In Loving Memory of Mrs. Edith Yvonne Polk

Mrs. Edith Yvonne Polk passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2025, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 74.

Edith was born July 16, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and came to Saginaw, Michigan, in her early twenties. She was the daughter of Paul P.T. and Edith Geniveve Zachary. Edith was raised by her loving grandparents, Daniel and Coritha Green, who played an important role in her life.

Edith was a devoted member of New Identity International Ministries (Pastors Obed and Exandrea Thompson) and a contributor to Divine Purpose Ministries (Pastors Abraham and Ebony White). Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she cherished the love and fellowship of her church family.

Edith was a woman of many interests and talents. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, and was an avid reader. She also loved gardening and listening to music. She had a beautiful spirit and found joy in many of life's simple pleasures.

Throughout her professional life, Edith served the community in several capacities. She previously worked at the Saginaw County Courthouse in the Prosecutor's Office and operated the Citizen’s Complaint Line under former Prosecutor Robert L. Kaczmarek. She also served as Division Head in the 70th District Court's Civil Division. Edith was well known for her time at Jacobson's Department Store, where she worked in the cosmetics department. She later became a licensed esthetician, continuing her passion for beauty and helping others.

Edith Yvonne Polk will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, confidante, and friend. Her kindness, strength, laughter, faith, beauty, and love touched the lives of all who knew her.

Edith shared 46 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Larry H. Polk. She leaves to cherish her precious memory with her husband, Larry H. Polk; children, Damaine Green of Chandler, Arizona; Yolanda Green of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ebony (Abraham) White, Saginaw, Michigan.

Edith will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Devonté Reynolds of Atlanta, Georgia, NyAizsha Polk, Anya White, and Abriana White, all of Saginaw, Michigan; great-grandchildren, Tru Rose Reynolds and NyAnna Villegas, both of Saginaw, Michigan, and Ari Jade Reynolds of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Sharon Jones, Gladys (Herchel) Palmore, and Theresa (Roland) Maxwell all of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Geniveve Collier of Cincinnati, OH, Eugene (Irma) Zachary of Cincinnati  Ohio, Carrie Polk of Saginaw, MI, Janice Polk, of Illinois, and Sherre Floyd of Saginaw, MI; and her brother-in-law, Eddie (Karen) Polk of Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Dace, Carmelita Zachary, Linda Zachary, and her brothers, Eugene Smith, Charles Collier, and Terry Zachary; her grandparents (who raised her), Daniel and Coritha Green; her mother-in-law, Mildred Polk; father-in- law, Larry Polk Sr.

Edith will also be remembered fondly by many special friends, including Mrs. Sandra Garth, Mother May Wathen, Evangelist Deanne Goodwine, and Ms. Penny Crudup. She was especially close to Samuel “Chris” Campbell, Trina Jones, Givenchy Heard-Bradford, Trent Palmore, and Danita “Lynn” Render, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Covenant Cooper Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital for the special care and compassion shown to Edith during her stay. May God bless everyone who prayed for Edith, visited her, supported her, and loved her throughout her life and during her illness. May God's protection and peace be with every one of you.

Rest peacefully, Edith. Your love and memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.
