“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
Mrs. Doris Ann Collier-Fuller went home to be with the Lord peacefully on May 1, 2025, at Covenant HealthCare-Harrison, with her daughters beside her, at the age of 68 years. It’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years. Doris, the youngest of 7 children, was born May 31, 1956, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Jessie and Reather Collier.
Doris accepted Christ at an early age. She knew the Bible and she had a personal relationship with God. She was a member of the Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church where Ernest L. Reed serves as Pastor. Doris attended Buena Vista Schools and also went to cosmetology school. She was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear and at General Motors (Chevrolet Grey Iron) in the cafeteria, where she met her husband, George. Caring for others was Doris’ passion which led to her becoming a Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant.
Doris faced the loss of her father at age 12 and endured other lifestyle challenges. This is what made her strong; she was a very strong woman and was known for her strength. Nothing could break her even as her health declined. In her final days, she still had the will to fight. Doris was known for her style, modeling, and bowlegs in her younger days. She was also known for her “attractive walk” which was followed by confidence, open body language, and a natural flow. Doris loved to cook, shop, laugh, dress nice, dance, roller skate, talk on the phone until the battery went dead, read her Bible, watch BET and Lifetime, and last but not least, spend time with her family. Her best friends were her daughters. They were 3 peas in a bucket, and she had a one-of-a-kind relationship with them and did not play about them. She loved her grandchildren dearly. They were her heart and joy. She loved being in their presence and never missed a beat in their life. Doris’s youngest grandchild called her Nana; she said it made her feel young. Doris had a kind soul and a heart of gold. Many people called her “Mama” because she treated them like her own. To know her was to love her. She will truly be missed.
Doris leaves a legacy of love and kindness and to cherish her memory two daughters, Marcella Collier and Michea Biggins; three grandchildren, Diamond Peoples, Marcelei'us Collins, and Larry Kinte Ryans II, all of Saginaw, Michigan; sister, Rosie L. Chaffer, Flint, Michigan, and brother, Walter (Edna) Collier, Mansfield, Texas; aunts, Lamuriel Lewis, Flint, Michigan, and Tener Humphrey, Saginaw, Michigan; uncle, James Humphrey, Alexandria Louisiana; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Fuller, father, Jessie Collier, Sr; mother, Reather Pierrie; sisters, Eugenia Coulbourne, Mary McClure, Nancy Carter; brother, Jessie Collier; and nephew, Cornel McBride.
The family would like to express special thanks to Debra Weems, Shelia Morris-Stephenson, Pastor Ernest L. (First Lady Tammy) Reed and the Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church family, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff at Paradise Funeral Chapel; last but not least, the 6th Floor Staff at Covenant HealthCare Harrison.
