Donald Fews Jr.

Donald Alfred Fews Jr. (Donnie), passed away on December 31, 2025, in his Lansing, Michigan home at 63 years of age. He was born on July 14, 1962, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, and was the son of the late Donald A. Fews Sr. and Rachel Fews. Donnie was the older brother to Gloria Hudson.

In his early years, Donnie played baseball, football, and basketball with his lifelong, best friends. Donnie also spent much of his free time with cousins, playing games and going to Detroit pro sporting events, listening to music and reading comic books. Donnie graduated from Southwest Detroit High School in 1980 then attended the University of Detroit, studying Architecture.

Donnie began dating his future wife, Sheila (Taylor), in his early twenties and they were inseparable for the next 44 years. They were married surrounded by friends and family on September 23, 1989. Sheila and Donnie would eventually settle in Lansing, MI and have two daughters, Jazmine and Maya.

He began working for the State of Michigan as part of the Michigan Education Trust (MET) division on February 2, 2003. In his spare time, Donnie loved to watch sports, especially University of Michigan Football and the Detroit professional teams. He also loved music and attending as many jazz concerts as possible during the summer. Donnie was happiest when he was with his loving wife and daughters at the Great Lakes, taking family vacations or spending time with his fur babies Princess, Tux, and Bailey.

Donnie was a man full of life and love, always just one phone call or text away to offer support, laughs, and commentary on sports and politics. He was a true shining light in this world.

The family sincerely appreciates the many communications of love they have received through prayers, calls and text messages. In lieu of flowers, they ask that expressions of bereavement and support be made in the form of donations to Fostering Futures or Belle Isle Conservancy in Donnie’s memory. Donnie’s Memorial well be held on Saturday, January 24, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Hidden Gem Event Venue in Holt, MI.
