Mr. Dennis “Geno” Gean Morrison, Jr., passed away Friday, May 1, 2026, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 68 years. He was born in Hope, Arkansas to Helen Rhinehart and Richard Morrison on December 30, 1957. Notably, he was the first Black child allowed to be born inside the local hospital.
He attended the former Harry Hill High School and began working at General Motors before he would graduate. It was from GM that he retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptised alongside his sons. Because of this, we are assured that his soul is in the care of God the father and almighty creator.
Dennis never stopped his pursuit of knowledge and learning. He continually celebrated and encouraged the younger generations to pursue more in life, including education, work, finances, family life and their spiritual wellbeing. He was never one to shy away from discussions of the Word and the good and bad of the world as he knew it. He walked in confidence, courage, and consistency. Geno loved to share what he knew and discuss current events. But if you truly knew Geno, you knew one thing for certain… he loved fishing.
Under his guidance, generations of children learned how to fish, cook, garden, and so much more. We who are left to celebrate his memory knew him as Dad, friend, brother, cousin, and Uncle. He took pride in the titles bestowed upon him and he strived to fill those roles in the best way he knew how. Often it was hard to tell one role from the other. He wasn’t just a cousin, but a cousin-brother, not just an uncle, but an uncle-dad. He was a hunter, gardener, researcher, a “spoil-er” of children, and provider. He treasured connection and welcomed any chance to gather, near and far. He loved his family...his presence will be sorely missed.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, Dennis Morrison, III, Dalton Morrison; daughters, Alexis Morrison and Liesa Morrison; grandchildren, Ashlianna, Jayden, Elijah, and Chase; sister, Nikita Morrison; brother, Richard Preacely; nieces, Ta’Shara (Matthew) Wellman and Leslie Flourry. Geno was loved by many, leaving a multitude of great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many special friends to carry forward the warmth, wisdom, and love he shared.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Rhinehart and Richard Morrison; grandparents Emmett and Virginia Cannon and Luther and Odessia Morrison; and his sister, Sheila Chastine.
