Darnell Appling

Mr. Darnell Appling was born on Saturday, February 1, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents, Sarah Appling and Floyd Patterson. He passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Lansing, Michigan.

Darnell resided in Lansing, Michigan, with his wife, Dolores Appling. He was a machinist for over twenty years and a hustler by nature. He enjoyed his family, cooking, shopping, dressing, driving and keeping his cars clean! He also enjoyed fishing and travelling.

Darnell was all about his family. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend; he was a protector by nature. And lets not forget about his four-leg son, “Lucky’. He was very helpful, supportive and a very loving husband and father.

Darnell leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Dolores Appling, Lansing, Michigan; five daughters, Tamecka (Kevin) Mahoney, Latasha Smith, Crystal Cook, Tiffany (Dennis) Johnson and Dominique Appling; God-children, Sharron Langford and Nic Jackson; grandchildren, Darian Lykes, Ke’Shawn Whitlow, Jaiden Burks, Diamond Stars, Tajanae Whitlow, Amaya Holt, Alayah Holt, Dennis Johnson III, Damani Glover, Brianna Mahoney, Tristan Johnson, Jaleel Glover and Javan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Tena and Imani Robertson; sibling, Ruby Wadley; and a host of other relatives and friends: including God-sisters, Patricia Gun, Pamela Neal, Helen Williams and God-brothers, Calvin Langford and William Gottschalk.

Darnell was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Appling and Floyd Patterson; and siblings, Gwendolyn Appling, Geraldine Phillips, Herbert Appling, Larry Appling, John Robert Appling, Alfonzo Appling, Johnnie Bernard Appling and Donald Appling.
