Life’s Journey

Curtis Mills Jr. was born on February 7, 1947, to Curtis Sr. and Lucy Mills, in Panola, Alabama, where he was raised. As a young adult, he set out in pursuit of new opportunities and moved to Saginaw, Michigan, which became his home. After living a fruitful life, Curtis transitioned to be with the Lord on June 20, 2026.

Work and Passions

Curtis was a jack of all trades. Whether repairing cars, completing yard work, removing snow, or remodeling homes, he was the person people could depend on. In 1972, he joined the City of Saginaw and retired in 1995 after 23 years of dedicated service. Those who knew Curtis knew he could never sit still—there was always work to be done. After retirement, he started his own lawn care service and maintained yards throughout the city. Curtis also took great pride in keeping his home, inside and out, in excellent condition. When he was not working, he could often be found fishing or watching Old Westerns, NASCAR, football, or baseball. After a long day, he enjoyed relaxing in the kitchen while listening to the Blues, music that touched his soul. Above all, Curtis cherished time with his grandchildren. Whenever they walked into the room, his eyes would light up. They brought him great joy, and when they were near, everything felt perfect.

Legacy

On February 7, 1976, Curtis was united in holy matrimony to Katie Mills, beginning a 50-year union. Together, they built a family with their daughters, Jennifer Mills (Lavelle) and Stephanie Mills, who became the center of his universe. His world expanded exponentially with light and love through his grandchildren, DaMarius Mills, Sr. (Markayla), and Autumn Conner; and his great-grandson, DaMarius Mills, Jr.

Loved Ones

In addition, Curtis leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Allie B. Brown and Marion Mills; six brothers, Bradley Mills, Cleveland (Katie) Mills, Clinton (Letha) Mills, James (Barbara) Mills, Tim (Linda) Mills, and William (Evegelin) Mills; four sisters-in-law, Elvia Mills, Jeraldine Mills, Joan Mills, and Lois Mills; one brother-in-law, Robert Little Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and special friends, Eric Collins, Janice Gidron, and Victor Mosson, who were more like family than friends.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Sr. and Lucy Mills; two sisters, Helen Mills-Thomas and Onner Lee Little; five brothers, Bobby Mills, Frank Mills, Ned Mills, Samuel Mills, and Willie Mills; and one sister-in-law, Almeta Mills.
