Make a joyful shout to the Lord all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before his presence with singing!

Psalm 100:1-2 NKJV

Our beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, and Grandfather, Curtis Levern Burgess, Sr., affectionately known as "Rev,” went home to be with his heavenly father on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the age of 87 years. Curtis, the youngest of 5 siblings, was born December 4, 1937, to Van and Eula Lee Burgess in New Zion, South Carolina.

After high school, Curtis left home at the age of 17 to share his passion and gift of singing, given to him by God. He traveled the world singing Gospel. He sang in some of the finest places, which included the Apollo Theater in New York City, with the original Blind Boys. Curtis was the lead singer of the Highway QCs and the Southern Trumpets. They recorded several songs, which can be found on YouTube Music. He was honored with various awards for his performances. Curtis was known by many for his melodious voice that wowed audiences, leaving the crowd wanting more; with spiritual fulfillment when all was said and done, mission accomplished.

After relocating to Saginaw in 1963 from Jacksonville, Florida, Curtis was employed by General Motors Grey Iron Foundry, retiring after 28 years. Curtis was a faithful member for many years at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as president and director of the Male Chorus, and as a member of the Mass Choir.

Curtis enjoyed spending time with his family and his lunch buddies, plowing his garden, watching sports, playing cards, and talking trash.

Curtis' memories will be cherished by the love of his life and devoted wife of 64 years, Willie Ruth Burgess; one son, Curtis Levern Burgess, Jr.; one granddaughter, Aaliyah Burgess; one sister, Laura Mae McFadden, New Zion, South Carolina, and his furry pet, Ben; a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends, Mary Harvey, Cedric Adams, and the Truevine Music Ministry.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Eula Lee Burgess, two sisters, Ethel Lee McFadden and Eloise Montgomery, and one brother, Marion Burgess.
