Cortney Michelle King

January 27, 1982 — August 23, 2025

Saginaw

Ms. Cortney Michelle King passed away August 23, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Saginaw, MI. Cortney, the only child of Stephanie Lorrei King, was born on January 27, 1982.

Cortney graduated from Ruben Daniels Lifelong Learning Center in 2000. She was employed by Saginaw Public Schools/First Student as a school bus driver for 14 years. She earned her Phlebotomist certification through the LaToya School of Phlebotomy in 2017. Cortney spent the last 6 years employed with Saginaw Transit Authority and Regional Services (STARS).

Cortney had an aura that would light up any room; she was REAL, and would speak her truth. She was the true definition of “from zero to 100”. If she liked you, she liked you, and if she didn’t, you knew that too. She loved entertaining and traveling with her children and friends. Cortney adored her children, grandchildren, and her mother with all her heart. She never hesitated to let the world know this – going above and beyond for them at every turn.

Cortney leaves to cherish her memory her children: Maurshay Goines, Deonta’Nay Degroat, Corrion Bates, Taylor and Jayla Wilson; grandchildren, Dioni Harris, Amiri Belvin, and Deon Anderson III. She is also survived by her loving mother, Stephanie L. King; grandmother, Pearl Hendricks-Henderson; sisters, Katya Moore and Vonta Lawrence; brother, Lavario Smith; grandfather, Preston (Gloria) Mason Jr.; aunts, Cloveese Hossmann, Resia (Barry) Walton-Burse, Trina Mason; great aunts, Carol Mason and Sandra Mason; uncles, Lethaniel (Yolanda) King III and Latrell King. Cortney will forever be remembered in the hearts of her cousins, whom she loved spending time with: Corey King, Branden King, Jaysen King, Artimese King, Anthony Hendricks, and a special cousin, Derek Mason. Many other cousins and uncles will mourn her loss. Her best friends, Patrice Davenport, LaKisha Jones, Carlotta Duncan, and Trudy Scroggins, will miss her dearly, along with a host of loving friends, the STARS family, and her special godmother, Dorian Rouse-Phelps.

Cortney was preceded in death by her precious infant daughter, MyAngel Wilson; father, L. C Moore; brother, Lawrence Moore; grandfathers, Lee M. King Jr., Willie Hendricks Sr., and Lee Henderson (who endearingly called Cortney (Ms. Muffet); aunts, Leigh Andrea King, and Anessa Hendricks; cousins, Marquis Meeks, Sharleea King and Leea Jamerson; uncle, Willie Hendricks Jr.; good friend, Chevon Hammond, and her one-of-a-kind adoring partner, Kendrick Bowens.
