December 16, 1957, Byron L. Thomas was born to Leslie Thomas and Joyce Collins, who preceded him in death, in the Parish of St. Catherine, Jamaica, in the small district of Juan de Bolas. He was known by several nicknames, including B, Jamaica Tony, Shotta, and DJ Shot Boss. Byron departed this life on April 17, 2026, at the age of 68.
Byron attended Juan de Bolas School in Jamaica and later migrated to the United States, where he worked as an electrician in Michigan and Florida. He eventually resided in Michigan. Byron was passionate about Jamaican culture, including food, music, dancing, DJing, and dominoes. His talent for construction work led him to build his own sound system for his enjoyment and for his neighbors to enjoy as well. His next build was his dream Jamaican food truck.
He will be remembered for his bright smile, his stylish clothes, and his love for cooking and sharing Jamaican dishes. He enjoyed meeting new people and engaging in conversations, especially with those who had an accent, which made the conversations even longer. Byron was a strong believer in Christ, often engaging in biblical debates. In his final days, he sought forgiveness and reaffirmed his faith in Christ.
Byron leaves to cherish his memory his fiancee, Denise Evans of Michigan; two daughters, Shellion Thomas of New York and Mushirah Thomas of Indiana; and three grandchildren, Kai'Onah of Indiana, Kayveon of Michigan, and Kalena of Indiana. Byron was one of six children. He also leaves brothers, Errol Fearon, who preceded him in death, Collin (Melva) Meade, and Robert Meade of Jamaica; two sisters, Odette (Michael) Chin of Jamaica and Lyneve (Cleveland) Blair of Florida; four nephews; four nieces; cousins; his lifetime special friend and ex-wife Lena Moton-Thomas; and a host of friends.
Byron is remembered for his generosity, vibrant personality, and the joy he brought to those around him.
