Benjamin Henderson was born in Boligee, Alabama to his mother, Mollie Henderson, and his father, Obedith Henderson (deceased), on June 23, 1963. Benjamin had five siblings: sisters Gloria Lewis and Alisha Ruffin (Richard Ruffin), and brothers Larry, Dwight, Lewis, and Reginald Henderson.

Known affectionately as “Ben,” he enjoyed traveling, listening to country music, watching old western television shows, playing his guitar, and spending time in his garden. These were the routines and hobbies that filled his days and brought him a sense of comfort and familiarity.

Ben also had a natural ability to repair and maintain things, a skill that made him the person many turned to when something needed fixing. He carried this practical talent into his professional life, spending many years working in construction. His work was steady, dependable, and marked by a strong commitment to doing his job well. Ben continued in this field until illness required him to retire earlier than he had planned.

Benjamin was the father of two children, his daughter Kiyuana Chappel and his son Darius Chappel. He was also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Kiyomi, Ivyona Bullock, Xariyah Chappell, Darius, Deairs Watkins, and Zeppelin Chappell. He is remembered by many nieces and nephews-Benita, Sharonda, Antonio, John Lewis, Jessica and Kevin Ruffin, Ryan, Terrance, Tyler, Jermey, and Jacqueline. He is preceded in death by his niece Teresa Lewis. Benjamin also leaves to cherish his memory his uncles Arthur, Allen, and John Strudwick and a host of cousins including; Joeann, Ruby, Lovetta, Gracie, Gladys, Brenda, and Thomas.

Benjamin’s presence will surely be missed. Though he has passed on, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.
