Mrs. Beatrice Earline Hamilton, a woman whose life was woven with love, faith, and the art of a needle and thread, was called home to her eternal rest on September 17, 2025, after a brief illness. She was 94.
Born on September 2, 1931, in Oxford, Alabama, to the late Jim Henry and Lucille Thomas Jackson, Beatrice was the eldest of seven children. She carried the warmth of her southern roots and a steadfast faith that guided her every step. Her mother taught her to sew, a gift that would become both her passion and her profession. Fiercely independent, she moved to New York City at 19, where she married Kojo Ali Adjoua and welcomed her son, Hakim. She was later led to start a new chapter in Saginaw, Michigan, to be closer to family. It was there that she married Johnny Lee Hamilton and became an active and cherished member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, sharing her beautiful voice in the choir. She also served as a local Girl Scout troop leader.
In 1988, excited to become a grandmother, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, with her son and daughter-in-law. A true artist with a machine, Beatrice was a master seamstress at Caskey Cleaners for more than 30 years. Her hands created more than garments; they crafted a legacy of kindness and hard work. She was a devoted member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. She was also a big fan of Michigan football, thanks to her alumnus son, and loved to travel with her family, especially on trips to the Caribbean. She was a constant presence at countless family milestones, always there with a word of encouragement and a heart full of love.
Beatrice’s greatest joy was her family, and as they moved, so did she. In 2021, she moved to Florida to be with them. She passed away surrounded by the people she loved most.
Beatrice will be deeply missed by her son, Attorney Hakim Ben-Adjoua (Cassandra Hicks) of New Port Richey, Florida; her granddaughter, Brittnee Adjoua Long (John) of Land O' Lakes, Florida; and her great-grandson, Jameson Long (8). She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Patricia Jackson of Saginaw, and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews, including niece Brenda Bryant (Randy) of Columbus, Ohio; niece Wilhelmina McCaw of Royal Oak, Michigan; and great-nieces Thumbelina Ibrahim and Mary Posey (Kenny) both of Columbus, Ohio. She will also be missed by several dear friends from all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Henry Jackson and Lucille E. Miller, and her siblings, Jim Jackson, Joe Louis Jackson, Major Jackson, Daisy Jackson, Willie Jackson, and Mary Alice Barnett.
“Well done, good and faithful servant…enter though into the joy of thy Lord.” (Matthew 25:21)
