Ms. Beatrice Benson passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan. Age 44 years. Beatrice was born on September 5, 1981, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Beatrice and Brian McGill Sr. From the start, she had beautiful brown eyes, a warm spirit, and a heart that loved deeply.

Beatrice’s life was a journey of love, strength, growth, and resilience. She faced trials and tribulations along the way, but through every chapter, she found her way back to herself. She learned from life, grew through her experiences, and stepped into her own strength, becoming the proud woman and mama she was meant to be.

Beatrice understood that life was never about being perfect. Like all of us, she made mistakes and had things she wished she could have done differently. What made her special was her willingness to grow, make things right, love harder, and continue becoming a better version of herself. Her past did not define her. Her growth did. Above everything else, Beatrice loved her family with all her heart. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved being surrounded by family, creating memories, sharing laughter, and simply enjoying the people who meant the most to her.

Beatrice was also a proud and loving wife to John Benson. She loved her husband entirely and cherished the life and love they shared. Their relationship meant so much to her, and she was deeply and genuinely loved in return.

She had a creative and curious spirit. Beatrice enjoyed baking, reading, writing poetry, spending time with family, and learning new things. She loved her tattoos, with each one representing another piece of her story. Her favorite color was blue, and she loved seafood—especially crab legs—and anything prepared with love.

Beatrice leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, John Benson; her six children, Damichael McGill, Jaquaveon Bowes, Shayla Bowes, Clifford Calhoun III, Chance McGill, and Armani McGill; stepchildren, John Benson Jr. and Dajon Benson; and four grandchildren, Belami McGill, Ji’Anni Bowes, Ke’Naii Bowes, and Mauricio Lopez. Her memory will also be forever cherished by her sisters, Toni Jaymes, Sade Glover, and Pamela McGill; brothers, Brian McGill, Lawrence McGill, and John McGill; aunts, Margie Schnell, Clara Hick, and Rita Strickland; uncles, Howard Strickland, Curtis Walker, and Bobby Walker; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whom she loved with all her heart.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Arlene Lawrence and Ethel McGill; grandfather, Arthur Walker; uncles, Alois Schnell and Alexander Jones; aunt, Pamela Jones; great-aunts, Charlotte Regalado and Margie Holmes; and cousins, Vincent Jones, Quincy Jones, and Cleotis Swilley.
