IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan Jerome
Butler, Jr., Esq.
June 16, 1982 – January 29, 2026
Attorney Alan Jerome Butler, Jr. was born on June 16, 1982, in Detroit, Mchigan, the son of Alan Jerome Butler, Sr. and Marilyn Webster. He passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, at his residence in Saginaw, Michigan, with his loving wife, Monyata, by his side.
Alan was a devoted husband, proud dog dad, and respected criminal defense attorney whose presence filled every room with confidence and warmth. Respected throughout the legal community and deeply loved by family and friends, he built a life defined by integrity, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to helping others navigate the complexities of the law.
Alan’s journey into law began when he made the decision to pursue law school, but his astute demeanor and quest for justice started early on. As a child, Alan impressed his brothers with writ and legislative knowledge, well before passing the bar. Inspired in part by the teachings and courage of Malcolm X, whose commitment to justice and empowerment deeply influenced his worldview, he enrolled at Cooley Law School in the fall of 2016. During his studies, he married the love of his life, Monyata, whose unwavering support carried him through graduation in January 2019. That same year, he passed the Michigan Bar Exam on his first attempt and began his legal career with the Saginaw Defenders Office. Driven by both independence and a deep sense of service, Alan went on to establish his own practice, Butler Legal PLLC, where he fiercely advocated for his clients. He also worked with the Saginaw County Juvenile Court, representing children in family-related matters, and later served as a Referee with the Genesee County Friend of the Court. Though his path included many roles, his heart always led him back to criminal defense, where he felt most called to stand beside those who needed a strong and steady advocate.
Alan lived a life of purpose and service. He was a distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and sought to give back to the community through many acts of kindness. Whether speaking to prospective law students at Saginaw Valley State University, or donating to his favorite local boxing gym, Gideon Boxing, he was very charitable with his time and money. His generosity spoke volumes about his character.
Alan took great pride in his appearance and was known for his sharp, timeless style. He loved tailored suits, custom shirts, and carefully chosen shoes, always finishing a look with matching suspenders and one of his many tie bars. Dressing well wasn’t a habit – it was part of who he was, a reflection of the confidence and care he brought into every room.
When he wasn’t in the courtroom, Alan cherished time with his wife, especially traveling together on cruises and attending concerts, which brought him immense joy. But some of his best days were spent comfortably in his own home with his wife and furry companion by his side. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy of service, strength, and love will carry on in all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: best friend and wife, Monyata; beloved dog, Tyson; father, Alan Butler Sr.; brothers Milton (Shannon) Hill and Romeo (Daynah) Manigault; paternal grandmother, Ola Ford; niece, Moriah Hill; close cousin, Robert Patterson; and a host of relatives and friends.
Alan was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Webster, and close friend, Antoine Marbury.
