Wynonah Butler

Wynonah L. (Ponder) Butler passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at her residence. She entered this life on Tuesday, March 21, 1939 in Saginaw, Michigan to Hazel and Theodore (Ted) Ponder, one of 11 siblings.

Wynonah, fondly called (Nonie), given to her by her brother, Ivan, because he couldn't pronounce her name, attended Saginaw Public Schools. Her graduating class of 1957 was the first to graduate from the newly built Saginaw High School on Webber Street. She was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Company (later AT&T) for 36 years, retiring in 1999. After being retired for several years, Nonie went back into the workforce and worked at McNally Hospitality House and Experience Works which she enjoyed immensely. She enjoyed going to Bethlehem Temple Church with her mother at a very young age, and at the age of 31 was baptized in Jesus’ Name and received the Precious Gift of the Holy Ghost. Wynonah served as Sunday School Secretary for several years and received Teacher of the year award in 2002, later becoming the Sunday School Superintendent until December 2008.

Wynonah will be cherished in memory by her children, Vickie Taylor, Jeanette Burley, Jennifer Butler, Wendell Brian (Shevonda) Butler and Michelle Butler; two step-sons, Robert Stinger and Kevin Howard; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Brandon, Flint, Michigan; Earlease (Joel) McMillon, Saginaw, Michigan; Donna Griggs, Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Ivan (Marianne) Ponder, Sacramento, California, and Everett Ponder, Liberal,Kansas; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including a nephew very special to her, Pastor Vincent D. McMillon, and her god-son, Jason Brown.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, Theodore and Hazel (Moon) Ponder; 4 brothers, Aaron, Robert, Alphonso and Leverett Ponder; one sister, Janice Gissendanner; a cousin, Eloise Owens; son-in-law, James Taylor; one niece, Phyllis Brandon; nephews, Leonard Brandon and Billy Gissendanner; great-nephew, Cordney Stephens; and best friend, Mary Works.
