Wilma Avalyn Isom

September 19, 1942 — May 22, 2022

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Mrs. Wilma Avalyn Isom, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 22, 2022. She was born September 19, 1942 in Milan, Tennessee to Omer and Willie Lee Thomas.

Mrs. Isom, a resident of Saginaw, Michigan, was a very smart, intelligent, classy and sophisticated lady. She attended Saginaw High School. Wilma accepted Christ at an early age. Wise beyond her years, Wilma was a woman of few words, and she was blessed with gifts of discernment and understanding. Mrs. Isom loved all of her children, and “especially” loved all of her grandchildren. Wilma’s favorite pastimes included traveling, studying/learning, watching the news and documentaries. She loved to shop and decorate, and she had a fancy for growing plants. Wilma will be greatly missed by family and friends who love her dearly.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: four daughters and three sons, Charles (Sharon) Garrett, Baltimore, Maryland, Lolita Isom (Mark) Harris, Bakersfield, California, and Baron Wingard, Pacifica, California, Pia Isom, Saginaw, Michigan, Brendan (LaKenya) Isom, Huntsville, Alabama, Tara Thomas-Simmons, Saginaw, Michigan, Brandi Thomas-Isom, Cincinnati, Ohio; three stepchildren; grandchildren, Antonio, Vanessa, Davon, Charles II, Wesley, all of Baltimore, Maryland, Kesten and Keari, Bakersfield, California, Devin, Darius, Raven, and Cordelfo, Torrey, and Licari, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Atiyana, Huntsville, Alabama, Breonn (John) Enderle, and My’Ari, Cincinnati, Ohio; many great-grandchildren; six sisters, Barbara Drake, Betty Midgett, Nona Nicholson, Patricia Phillips, Rhonda McLeod; and Monica Lewis; one brother, Omer Wayne Thomas; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Mary Balls, Eddie Isom, Freddie Wilson, and Claudette (Rick) Brown.

Mrs. Isom was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Isom; son, Parrish Wingard, grandson, Ty A. Johnson, parents, Omer and Willie Lee Thomas; brothers, James Edward and William Arthur Thomas; special friends, Jewel Braggs, Stephanie Smith, Petey Chester and Marcena Isom.

The family would like to express special thanks to her grandson, Torrey, and her sister, Patricia Phillips.
