Willie Lee Mason, treasured by many, transitioned to eternity at the age of 73 in Saginaw, Michigan on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Willie was born May 5, 1946 in Greenville, Mississippi to Willie Mason and Hattie Mae Mason-Williams, who preceded him in transition.
Willie, affectionately known as "Boot", had an extreme love for family and service to the church. He was known for his sternness as well as his sense of humor. He was a “jack of all trades” and loved fishing, hunting, bowling, and cooking. He worked for General Motors for 52 years before retiring July 1, 2008.
Willie was a retired Sargent of the United States Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Parachutist Badge and Purple Heart Medal of Honor.
Willie was a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, formally Woodside Missionary Baptist Church. He served with diligence as President of the Usher Board and Choir, Vice President of Trustees, Treasurer of the Male Chorus and Usher Board, Men’s Ministry and Hospitality Ministry. He poured his heart into uplifting and serving his country, church, and community.
Willie was preceded in transition by his wives, MiaXia Mason and Joycia Mason; parents, Willie Henry Mason Sr., Hattie Mae Mason-Williams; step father, Aron Williams; granddaughter, Katrina Mason; grandparents, Paul and Henrietta Jones Mason ; sister, Dorothy Mason; brother-in-law, James Peacock; several aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, La Keisha (John Jr.) Todd, Fort Wayne, Indiana, La Jauana Mason, Quiana Mason, both of Saginaw, Michigan, Christina Patton Mason, Alabama, Natosha Wilburn Mason, Florida; sons, Will Henry Mason, Thailand, Kenney Mason, Louisiana, Anthony Williams, Indianapolis, Indiana, Quian Mason Sr., Auburn, Michigan; sister, Aaron Jean Williams-McKissick, Saginaw, Michigan; brother, T.W. Mason, Grand Rapids, Michigan; 32 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three step-children; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends Faye Presley and Abraham Nichols.
