Wayne D. Petty, Sr.

Wayne D. Petty Sr. was born July 9, 1959 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Bartow Jr. and Marie Petty. He went from labor to reward on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the age of 61 years.

Wayne graduated from St. Stephens High School, “Class of 1978”. He worked for Mrs. Baird for 10 years. A firm believer in God, Wayne attended Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he adored his grandchildren. He always had the biggest smile, lighting up every room he entered. He loved sports and attending basketball and football games.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Bartow Jr. and Marie Petty; brothers, Virgil and Wendell Petty.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Wayne D. Jr. and Eric W. Petty; grandchildren, London A. and Ashton J. Petty, both of Decatur, Alabama; sister, Rita Marie Woods; three nieces, Kashariee Bell, Kendra M. Woods and Chianne Williams; nephews, Virgil Jr., Cordney, Aaron, Bryan Petty, Sherman Woods, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Sharon and Tabitha Petty; brother-in-law, Sherman Woods, Sr.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends Duane Fairris, Andre Wiggins, Mark Oates, Leon Surles and Robert Johnson.

The family would like to express special thanks to Wayne’s sister Rita Woods, Deleasha Trice who was the daughter ne never had, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
